Wind Tunnel
A Thorpe Seeop P40 is shown in the Thorpe Low Speed Wind Tunnel prior to tethered control authority tests.
The Thorpe Low Speed Wind Tunnel can support any number of important engineering parameters including
- Basic Lift, Drag, and Moment aerodynamics measurement using a instrumented sting of “lolly-pop” mount for studies including:
- Whole airframe or structure being studied
- Individual airframe or structure components
- Control moments
- Tethered “free flight” or sting or lolly-pop mounted studies of full size UAS test vehicles, such as
- Control authority and handling qualities
- Flutter
- Cooling studies for engine, payloads, et cetera
- Flow visualization studies
- Gust studies
- Captive carry studies
- Safe separation studies of released items or ordnance from wing or fuselage stores of a hosting vehicle.
- Launch and recovery studies
- Parachute/parasail deployment and operations studies
- Conversion studies with tethered models and accelerating/decelerating airflows
- Tow Body studies
